PROFILE

Born in Miyoshi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Film Producer and Director. For many years Shotaro has been a powerful proponent of the cause of peace and devoted himself to film production and distribution to that end. As one of representative works, Shotaro produced the feature animation "Barefoot Gen 2" in 1986. Also, he directed and produced the documentary "Dai San no Heishi (The Third Soldier)" in 1993, which introduces the achievements of Swiss Red Cross doctor Marcel Junod who flew medical supplies into Hiroshima immediately following the dropping of the atomic bomb and thereby saved numerous citizens.
Having seen Renzo and Sayoko Kinoshita's animation short "Pica Don" (1978), he lent his support to the two who were making every effort towards the establishment of the International Animation Festival. He sought support from many of the citizens of Hiroshima and gave all his strength to making the first Hiroshima International Animation Festival in 1985 a reality.
For many years he has served as a liaison between the Hiroshima Festival and the citizens of Hiroshima.
